A celebration of the elegant art form
The Florence Dance Festival is Italy’s most sophisticated depiction of international art. Known as the home of the Italian heart of dance, the festival runs every July to celebrate dance troupes and ballerinas from all over the world.
The first edition of the famed summer dance festival based in Tuscany was hosted in 1990 by the Italian ballerina Étoile Marga Nativo and New York choreographer Keith Ferrone. Over the past 25 years, the event has come into the spotlight as a creative event depicting the best of Italian dance over a month. Over 500 artists have performed at the event since it’s inception over two decades ago.
The festival is the finest depiction of elegant movement, poignant emotion and extreme discipline. This year will see the 26th edition of the event, running from 9th-30th July hosted at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. The programme offers eleven performances from renowned international dancers, as well as an exhibition of visual arts and plenty of extras to enjoy. Be sure to catch the homegrown Aterballetto, Italy’s most prominent Dance Company from Reggio Emilia, who will be performing ‘Contempo Suite’ work from choreographers Mauro Bigonzetti, Eugenio Sciliano and Philippe Kratz.
