What Better Combo than Pasta and Wine?

We’ve carefully selected a fine array of reds from Italy that pair perfectly with Giovanni Rana’s fresh filled pastas

 

2005 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Monte dei Ragni, Fumane, Veneto

This sought-after full-bodied red is fairly expensive, but its rich flavour makes it worth splashing out on.  

From Verona in northern Italy, Amarone is an elegant dry red wine. Bursting with dark cherries and plum fruits, it perfectly complements Giovanni Rana’s Simply Italian Tomato & Basil Sauce, and other tomato-based dishes.

A unique wine, the grapes are dried using nets instead of baskets, which results in a more complex flavour – the difference in taste is remarkable.

 

2011 Valpolicella Superiore, Marion, Marcellise, Veneto

The 2011 Valpolicella Superiore is a smooth, fruity wine, full of blackberries, blackcurrants and subtle hints of pepper.

Marion is one of the most beautiful estates, just north of Verona on the site of a splendid 15th century villa.

As complex as an Amarone, but more accessible and affordable, the Valpolicella has a velvety finish and a fantastic depth of flavour.

We’d recommend pairing the Valpolicella Superiore with our Giovanni Rana Chicken, Mozzarella and Smoked Pancetta Ravioli.

 

2009 Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy’s finest reds. A fresh and perfectly balanced vintage wine with notes of fleshy black fruit, it’s a classic.

Located 30 miles south of Siena, Montalcino’s 2,000 hectares of vines are hemmed in by the Orcia, Asso and Ombrone valleys. Cask-aged for over four years, it’s a very rich, full-bodied wine.

Pair the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino with Giovanni Rana Italian Indulgence Sun Ripened Tomato, Sliced Olives & Mozzarella Ravioli. The richness of the wine works particularly well with the creamy mozzarella – delicious!
